Where does social media fit in today's marketing mix?
Is it right for every business?
Is it just another fad?

Social
media has enabled customers to change the rules of marketing forever,
and businesses not knowing how to engage in a post-social media world
risk losing customers they never knew they had.

This practical session
takes you through how the developments have:
• Changed people's purchasing habits.
• Impacted on traditional marketing.
• Shown the importance of social media as a key marcomms tool.

We
all know what social media is, and we know that it's something we
should be involved with. However, are we as productive as we could be?
Do you feel that your campaigns are working for you in the way you want?
Do you have questions about the practical side of using these tools or
setting up your business on the various applications? Do you want to
know how you can make sure you are reaching your target audience - and
making an impact?

Following the session speaker, there is a
quality hands on Q&A, with Dr Digital experts, to diagnose and
support your use of social media. Areas covered are Twitter (generate
conversations that build rapport and drive traffic), Facebook and
LinkedIn (their importance for business).

WiFi is available at
the venue. We recommend you bring your laptop (not tablet) to access
your social media accounts as you can work directly with one of our
experts to resolve your queries.

The Dr Digital experts for this
session are Adam Naisbitt of Cooper Banks MacKenzie, Shelley Rostlund of
Social Intelligence and Lilach Bullock of Sociable.

Adam
Naisbitt is a text-book serial entrepreneur. For over fifteen years,
Adam has been at the forefront of bringing marketing and technology
together. His work in this arena has been featured in business press
ranging from the London Evening Standard and the Wall Street Journal.
Last summer, the BBC voted Adam Naisbitt's team the second best social
media team in the world.

Adam’s unique blueprint for online
marketing is now used by businesses ranging from solo-entrepreneurs to
multi-million pound chains across the country. It has also driven the
success of projects such as 2012TicketAlert, a social media based
service which grew to over 100,000 followers and reached 2.5 million
people over the three weeks of London 2012 Olympics.

Alongside
his commercial work, Adam is passionate about investing into social
projects and his company is currently driving and funding projects
tackling problems in education, business training and unemployment.

Just as marketers seek to understand their customers, HR people benefit from gaining 'employee insight' to inform HR strategy, influence the design of internal communication strategies and design effective people management initiatives.

This raises some important questions: do organisations know they are attracting the type of person that fits with their values, culture and purpose? When applying for a job, does an individual know that their values, purpose and motivations fit with those of their prospective employer?

The answer is not as clear cut as a simple yes or no even though a lot of research is probably done on both sides of this equation: yet in instances when one side gets it wrong, a lot of physical and emotional disruption is caused; and that is before the financial cost is counted. If benefits are to be reaped from employer branding, it is crucial that there is collaborative working between HR specialists and colleagues in marketing and internal communications functions.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality profiling tool based on preferences which enable you to assess your psychological type; and some interesting work has been done with MBTI to assess organisations in a similar way.

This workshop explores the MBTI at both an individual and organisational level and links with the notion of employer branding.

Workshop content:

* Introduction to the MBTI framework
* Understanding type - personal perspective
* Understanding type - organisational perspective
* Employer branding

The intention of the workshop is to inform, encourage discussion and debate. Participants will be encouraged to share their experience and examples and will be offered a 50% discount on a personal MBTI profiling questionnaire and feedback session which is normally priced at £120 plus VAT.

Workshop delivered by Level Seven (UK) Limited, a Northampton-based talent and leadership development consultancy.

When: 19th November 2009

Where: Holiday Inn, Northampton

How to Book: Visit the CIM website here or call (0)1628 427340

This event attracts 2 hours CPD
Tim Martinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04253203594573366639noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6448629361894451895.post-67500551834673342742009-07-29T19:31:00.005+01:002009-12-18T14:08:00.811+00:0016th September 2009 - Northampton - The missing link between direct mail and the internetPLEASE NOTE THIS EVENT HAS HAD TO BE CANCELLED - SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE

The missing link between direct mail and the internet Marketing one to one delivers real results!

The problem:
Summer 2007, response rates and overall return on investment (ROI) from all Moneypenny direct mail campaigns were dramatically dropping despite introduction of external agency experts. There were no quantifiable or tangible measures of the relationship between online and offline marketing.

Moneypenny was blind and had limited opportunities to learn what was causing the slide. Agencies had no real answers. Direct mail generated a high volume of internet traffic, but a low volume of clients and the question was why. We needed to know more, a lot more, fast. We required a different, unique approach that combined education about the product with a sales opportunity, and an increased ROI on the £650k direct marketing budget.

Moneypenny required a method of:
a. Increasing offline responses
b. Measuring the online education journey
c. Presenting different scenarios to specific individuals and sectors
d. Measuring the EXACT impact online of offline activity
e. Converting ‘educated’ visitors who don’t initiate contact
f. Increasing ROI

The solution
Combining the impact of personalised direct mail with a truly personalised online tool. Prospective clients view a personalised website that reflects their individual and their sector’s needs. Moneypenny learns from each individual visitor exactly what their journey and preferences are and responds accordingly.

Using technical expertise from the US, database driven variable text and imagery, Moneypenny has overcome the anonymity of direct mail campaigns and now speaks directly to its prospects, concentrating just on their own specific needs and wants.

Speaker: Rachel Clacher, co-founder, Moneypenny. Moneypenny is the UK’s leader in telephone answering and outsourced reception services. Established in 2000 by brother and sister team Ed Reeves and Rachel Clacher, today it looks after four million calls a year calls for over three thousand businesses of all shapes and sizes across the UK.

Speaker:
Rachel Clacher

Date:
16/09/2009

Time:
18:30

Venue:
Holiday Inn,
Northampton
Bedford Road
Northampton
NN4 7YF

For further information and to book please visit http://www.cim.co.uk/ or contact cimevents@cim.co.ukTim Martinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04253203594573366639noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6448629361894451895.post-91866732470516779862009-05-15T05:10:00.005+01:002009-05-15T05:25:31.396+01:0010th June 2009 - Loughborough - Take it to the world - The power of exportingThe Chartered Institute of Marketing and UK Trade and Investment East Midlands are proud to present an opportunity for members and guests to attend this high profile masterclass in International Marketing.

Many hail exporting as a leading driver in terms of business recovery from the current financial climate. Will yours kill your competition and/or your audience?

If you use PowerPoint, then this Killer Presentations Workshop will be the most valuable half-day event you attend this year.

How many companies actually measure the 'effectiveness' of their presentations? We estimate that only around 5% of companies are able to answer this. Our research shows that most companies believe that their material is 'good' and is 'likely to be as good as their competitors'. But is that really good enough?

Have you ever wondered how simple changes to your presentation could have a big impact on its success? Do you really know what makes an effective presentation? In the past, you may have received training on how to deliver a presentation but chances are you won't have been given PowerPoint Effectiveness training.

The Killer Presentations Workshop is unlike any other. It focuses on what is effective on slides and why - based on academic research and experience. Why not send us some samples of your current material and we can provide feedback in the session?

Who will benefit from the Workshop?
* Marketing and support staff who prepare presentations for themselves or others
* Sales professionals who want to improve the success rate of their presentations
* Communications managers
* Analysts and Specialists who inform others or seek approval for projects

By attending, you will learn how to produce and deliver effective presentations which will engage your audience. You will instantly improve your ability to transform average presentations into 'Killer Presentations' - those that have visual impact, high recall and create bottom-line results.
After all, a memorable presentation can make the difference between you winning and losing an order, gaining acceptance of an idea or failing, or creating a meaningful exchange of information rather than misunderstanding.

During the workshop you will work on your own PowerPoint presentation and take away a much improved version. You will also hear real case study examples and take away ideas that you can implement right away. Delegates will be given the knowledge and methodology to create, and opportunities to deliver, presentations in an easy to use and ground-breaking format that re-defines the fundamentals of great presentations.

The workshop format focuses on how to:
* develop and structure compelling messages
* initiate the visualisation process
* increase audience retention through synchronised visual communication
* present a seamless flow of visual information

Note:
Places are restricted due to the intensity of the session, so we advise you to book early to secure your place.

Date:
Tuesday 13th May 2008

Time:
09:00 - 12:30

Venue:
Sunley Management Centre
University of Northampton
NN2 7AL

Prices:
CIM Member £35
CIM Student & Student £35
Guest £45
You can book on:
http://www.cim.co.uk/NewsAndEvents/Events/EventDetails.aspx?ObjectID=18577Nigel Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17557471275104358989noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6448629361894451895.post-67628399341223198182008-02-03T20:53:00.002+00:002008-04-28T12:25:40.612+01:0022nd April 2008 - "Marketing for Small Businesses Conference" and Workshops - CANCELLEDAn opportunity for small business leaders and practitioners, seeking new inspirations to improve their sales and profitably. But to do so can be to the detriment of the business, The Chartered Institute of Marketing is warning businesses in the East Midlands.

Research has shown that there is a significant link between training and the chances of a business closing. Of the companies that did not provide training for employees, over one in four of (27%) closed between 1998 and 2004, while only one in nine companies that did provide training failed during the same period.*

“This is a significant statistic and one that businesses in the East Midlands can learn from,” explains Jill Wells, regional chair of The Chartered Institute of Marketing in the East Midlands. “Marketers are front line when it comes to driving growth and if they don’t have the qualifications or training that keeps them up-to-date then their employer’s business could unintentionally suffer.”

And yet research also shows that 11% of employees feel they are under-skilled for their current role.** If marketers are to work at their optimal level then active and targeted training by employers is vital.

“Those that are under-skilled are less likely to take advantage of marketing opportunities as they arise and are less likely to understand how strategic marketing can best position the business for growth,” concludes Jill.

There is a full events schedule available in the East Midlands as well as professional courses available at the local study centres, details of which may be found at www.cim.co.uk/events. In addition, The Chartered Institute of Marketing provides both professional qualifications and short courses that promote excellence in marketing. These are based on detailed research and feedback from employers, industry leaders, academics and The Institute’s students.

ENDS

* Training and Establishment Survival, Skills for Business Research Report 22, March 2007, Sector Skills Development Agency, www.ssda.org.uk
** Job Matching in the UK and Europe, Skills for Business Research Report 25, July 2007, Sector Skills Development Agency, www.ssda.org.uk

Note to editors: For assistance, kindly contact Amy Claridge on 01522 698 698 / 07770 764446.

About The Chartered Institute of Marketing:
The Chartered Institute of Marketing is the leading international professional marketing body with some 50,000 members worldwide. The blog - to be found at www.cimnorthants.blogspot.com - will act as a newsletter about local events and campaigns but will allow the area’s marketers to post information and have their say if they wish.

The idea came from committee member Nigel Adams, who shared his enthusiasm with the rest of the committee and together they felt that the branch should be the first to see if blogging helps local marketers to interact and make the most of what’s available to them.

"We recently had a brilliant event about new technology in marketing", explains Nigel "and we thought it would be a good idea to try using this new technology to see if it would help us improve communications with our members and local marketers, as well as getting feedback from them.
A newsletter via post or email is the usual way for branches to communicate but it is a one-way communication. We hope our blog will foster a lively interaction of both news and views."

Adding posts and commenting on them is open to not only Chartered Institute of Marketing’s members but also local marketing people and business owners, just as events are.

A blog - short for weblog - is an online journal or newsletter that is frequently updated and intended for general public use. It is estimated that there are 150 million blogs created around the world.

ENDS

Note to editors: For assistance, kindly contact Amy Claridge on 01522 698 698 / 07770 764446.
About The Chartered Institute of Marketing: The Chartered Institute of Marketing is the leading international professional marketing body with some 50,000 members worldwide.
